NEMA provides relief materials to Zamfara govt
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has provided relief items to the Zamfara State government to assist the victims of the recent fire at a Qur’anic school in Kaura Namoda.
During the delivery of these items in Kaura Namoda local government, the Director General of NEMA, Hajiya Zubaida Umar, stated that this initiative reflects the Federal Government’s concern for the victims’ plight.
The Director General was represented by Mr. Aliyu Shehu Kafindangi, Head of the NEMA Sokoto Operations Office, who announced that the relief support includes food items such as bags of rice, maize, and vegetable oil, as well as non-food items like detergents and medical supplies.
Hajiya Zubaida Umar had previously visited the victims, who are undergoing treatment at the Khadijah Women and Children Welfare Clinic in Kaura Namoda.
During this visit, the NEMA representative also provided medical supplies to the Primary Health Care Center for the ongoing treatment of the victims.

Additionally, she led a team of joint stakeholders, including representatives from the Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency (ZEMA), the Zamfara State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and the Kaura Namoda Local Government Council, to the site of the incident to express condolences and support to the Qur’anic school community for the loss of students.
The items donated by NEMA were received on behalf of the state government by the Executive Secretary of ZEMA, along with the Director of Disaster Control, Hassan Usman Dauran; the Emir of Kaura Namoda, Alh. Sanusi Muhammad Asha; and the Commissioner from the Zamfara State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary, Muhammed Bashir Maradun.
The team also visited the Emir’s palace to inform Alhaji Sanusi Muhammad Asha about the relief support from the Federal Government.
In response, the Emir of Kaura Namoda, Alhaji Sanusi Asha, pledged to oversee the distribution of food items to the victims through the Emergency Response Committee established by the state and local governments.
On Wednesday, 17 Almajiris died and another 17 were injured in a devastating fire incident in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The fire broke out around 2:00 am due to burning corn stalks, engulfing the shelter where the pupils were asleep.
Reacting, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who commiserated with the state government and owners of the school, enjoined public and private schools to prioritise children’s safety and security at all times and directed regulatory authorities in the education sector to ensure compliance with safety standards.
