SMEDAN, NIPOST offer 15% logistics discount to small businesses

This initiative aligns with the GROW Nigerian strategy of the SMEDAN DG, who has identified collaboration with government and private organisations as key to expanding opportunities for small businesses and lowering operational costs.

In an effort to improve business conditions, expand sales, and lower operational costs for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria, the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDAN) has partnered with the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) to offer a special 15% discount on logistics services.

During a Press Conference which was held at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja, the Director-General of SMEDAN, Charles Odii described the partnership as a direct response to feedback from SMEs regarding the high cost of logistics and its negative impact on sales.

Mr Odii explained that the feedback received by the agency through its engagements with SMEs revealed that in some cases, the cost of delivery exceeds the cost of items, discouraging sales and limiting commercial opportunities for SMEs.

The Director-General also said SMEDAN was making provision for collection centres of goods for NIPOST at its offices nationwide to initiate, process and fast-track deliveries, ensuring that small businesses can move goods to remote parts of the country efficiently, timely, and affordably.

Postmaster General of NIPOST, Tola Odeyemi, said the discount offer which will commence on Monday will be available to SMEs that have been registered with SMEDAN.

Odeyemi, said the partnership will contribute to the achievement of inclusive economic growth, considering that MSMEs, which represent over 90% of businesses in the country and contribute half of the GDP, serve as the backbone of the economy.
