AAG Statistician predicts 15 gold medals for Nigerian atheletes

An athletics statistician, Olalekan Soetan, on Thursday said that he was optimistic that the sport would record not less than 10 to 15 gold medals at the forthcoming African Games in Morocco.

Soetan, who said this in Lagos insisted that with the performances of Nigerian athletes within and outside the country, athletics would record not less than 15 gold medals.

“Ten to 15 gold prospects and many medals will be recorded in Morocco by Nigeria, all things being equal.”

He said that with the likes of Divine Oduduru , Oluwatobiloba Amusan, Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor and some of the young athletes doing well, the Games holding from Aug. 10 to Aug. 31 would be interesting.

Nigeria won 47 gold, 55 silver and 42 bronze medals at the 2015 edition held in Congo Brazaville.

Athletics recorded 10 gold, seven silver and three bronze medals for the country at the 2015 edition.

Soetan also said that he was happy that Nigerian athletes had started qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo.
