NYSC chief flags off special election training for 2,641 corps members in Yola

Training of 2,641 corps members, recruited as ad-hoc staff by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for general elections, have been official declared open in Adamawa state.

Maj-Gen Sule Zakari Kazaure, Director-General of the NYSC, said the special election officiating training, is meant to acquaint the corps members with the rudiments of what they would be expected to do.

Kazaure urged the corps members, to be apolitical in their engagements during the general elections without sympathy or obligation to any political actors.

“We have been involved in conducting credible elections in the past which have contributed in sustaining the country’s democratic dispensation.

“Work true to this expectation and do not allow anybody to use you for any self-serving purpose”.

The State Coordinator Malam Abubakar Muhammed, who represented the D.G at the occasion told the corps members that their choice by INEC as presiding officers, is owing to their educational level and different states they came from.

“You are supposed to be politically unattached to any local politician.

“You are supposed to be neutral, without sympathy or obligation to any political actors here.

“Take charge, but know your limits and be humble especially with those who will work with you.”

About 1,086 and 503 corps members from Yola North and Yola South LGAs are expected to participate in the training.
