Super Falcons’ Thomas Dennerby tips Asisat Oshoala, Desire Oparanozie to shine at AWCON
Super Falcons coach Thomas Dennerby has tipped Asisat Oshoala and Desire Oparanozie to shine at the forthcoming African Women’s championship (AWCON) in Ghana, but also expects some younger stars to emerge.
“We have talents in our team both in defence and the forwards. There is Asisat Oshoala and Desire Oparanozie and they both combined to score six goals against Gambia (in the qualifiers),” Dennerby said.
“They have to be in good form if they want to be successful in Ghana and we also have some young players knocking on the door and I hope this tournament will bring out some other stars.

Dennerby said the Falcons target is to retain the AWCON title they won two years ago in Cameroon and also qualify for next year’s World Cup in France.
“Our ambition is to win the tournament but most importantly to secure our ticket to the 2019 World Cup in France,” he stated.
“Of course, we know it won’t be easy because there is big improvement from many teams, so it is important to have good preparation if you want to win games.”
Nigeria are drawn in the first round against South Africa, Kenya and Zambia.
