Nigeria Records First Ever Win At The Amputee Football World Cup
After scaling countless hurdles to make it to Mexico for the 2018 Amputee Football World Cup, the Special Eagles of Nigeria lost their first two games to Brazil and Russia. Yesterday, the team recovered from the defeats to beat El Salvador 1-0, making it their first ever win at the tournament.
Our special Eagles won their last group match against El Salvador in Mexico despite losing 6-0 and 3-0 to Brazil and Russia the defending champion. Congratulations I am indeed happy that you made an important appearance to avoid sanctions after missing 3 previous editions.
The Special Eagles missed out on the past three editions of the Amputee World Cup due to a number of challenges. Since this is their debut at the competition, the lone goal scored by Ezeji Kennedy makes him the first Nigerian ever to score in an Amputee World Cup game.
The victory has given Nigeria three points and placed them third in Group E. Given that the match against El Salvador was their last in the group, the team will play another game on Thursday. BBCreports that the game will determine if they’ll progress in the tournament or not.
Well, whether the progress in the tournament or not, the players are happy to have had the chance to put up a fight at the Worl Cup. The experience will certainly go a long way in helping them prepare for future editions.
