Here’s The Cast Of The Theatre Adaptation Of ‘The Secret Lives Of Baba Segi’s Wives’

If you haven’t read Lola Shoneyin‘s masterful debut novel, The Secret Lives Of Baba Segi’s Wives, we’re not really sure what you’ve been doing with yourself all these years, because it’s easily one of the best books out of Nigeria.

While we’ve all been waiting for Shoneyin to follow up with another brilliant novel, she seems to be pacifying her London fans for the meantime with an on-stage adaptation directed by Rotimi Babatunde.

The book follows the story of Baba Segi and the scandalous happenings in his household. Lola Shoneyin touches on several social issues like polygamy, sexuality and rape without ever dropping the ball! Beyond that, the story is hilarious in its delivery and the message is still clear and pertinent.

This is the second on-stage adaptation of the book, where the first included a cast of Nollywood actors like Joke Silva and Adesua Etomi. The cast has been announced and it includes Patrice Naiambana from Barbershop Chronicles; Jumoké Fashola of BBC Radio London’s Sunday Breakfast Show; Christina Oshunniyi from Queen Elizabeth Hall and Africa Center; Layo-Christina Akinlude who starred in an adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew;and media personality, Dolapo Oni.

This production will also feature an ensemble made up of actor-musicians led by Ayan De First and Usifu Jalloh. The entire ensemble will also double as an acoustic band with traditional instruments, including Omele drums, Gbedu drums, Shekeres, Talking drums and more.

The play will be showing from June 7 – July 18 in the Arcola Theatre in London, and we hope it does the book justice.
