Meet Nigerian German Lukas Nmecha, The New Striker On Manchester City’s First Team?
In their game against West Ham on Sunday, Manchester City fielded 19-year-old striker, Lukas Nmecha who replaced Gabriel Jesus in the last 10 minutes of the game. The match marked Nmecha’s debut in the Premier League – and, understandably, fans are asking who this new face is.
Nmecha might look like a rookie to some people, but he isn’t. Before his Premier League debut on Saturday, he had established himself as a formidable player in Man City’s youth teams. Born in Hamburg to German and Nigerian parents, he was scouted by Man City shortly after he moved to England.

For over a decade, Nmecha kept his head up while playing for the club – playing for all their youth ranks. A badass number nine, the 20 goals he scored for the under-18 team helped Man City top the 2015/2016 Under-18 Premier League table.
In the following season, he became the FA Youth Cup top scorer after netting 11 goals – including a hat-trick in each leg of the semi-final against Stoke City.
Nmecha is eligible to play for Nigeria, Germany and England. Since 2016, he has featured for England’s under-18 and under-19 teams.
