New ‘Venom’ Trailer Reveals ‘Black Panther’ Actress, Sope Aluko’s Role

About a month ago, we reported that Nigerian-American actress, Sope Aluko, will be following up her role as the shaman in Marvel’s acclaimed hit, Black Panther, with a role in another superhero movie, Venom.

While it’s been made abundantly clear that Venom will be a standalone movie for Sony — entirely separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe — Sope Aluko’s casting had fans wondering if there would be a crossover element after all.

Well, with the release of Venom‘s first full trailer, all the speculations have finally been put to rest. Sope Aluko seems to be playing a lead scientist employed by the movie’s primary antagonist, Carlton Drake (played by Emmy winner, Riz Ahmed).

While Sope Aluko only appears in two scenes in the entire trailer, there’s no indication that she is secretly playing the shaman. Granted, we are hoping that she is actually undercover for Wakanda à la Nakia in Black Panther, but we really doubt it.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer (ZombielandGangster Squad) and set to be released on October 5, Venom will follow Eddie Brock (played by Oscar nominee, Tom Hardy), who becomes the host of a violent alien symbiote that gives him superhuman powers.
