Rudeboy Paul Teams Up With Reminisce On New Party Track, ‘Is Allowed’
Since P-Square split last year, Paul Okoye (aka Rudeboy) has been coming through with impressive jams — all reminiscent of the group’s best work — to satiate fans until their inevitable reconciliation. Now, he has teamed up with Reminisce for his fourth single as a solo artist, “Is Allowed”.
While Paul’s last three tracks found him leaning heavily into his highlife influences, “Is Allowed” is a more generically afropop offering — which makes it the weakest of all four songs, but the most likely to become a radio hit.
“Is Allowed” isn’t only musically uninspired, it’s also lyrically innate — which is especially strange since Paul is actually a competent songwriter. It’s hard to complain, however, since the song was clearly only created to be one more addition to the endless barrage of shaku shaku anthems hitting the airwaves.
Although it would be easy to call this Paul Okoye’s first solo misstep, the song reminds us too much of 2Face’s “Gaga Shuffle” — vapid but catchy — for us to think it won’t end up dominating the airwaves, and maybe even growing us down the line.
