Kiss Daniel Joins Omawumi On Confident New Single, ‘Me Ke’

Last year, the inimitable Omawumi dropped her third (and best) studio album, Timeless — an exceptional body of work that showed fans and detractors alike that the versatile singer hadn’t lost any of her creative spark.

Now, for her first official single of the year, she teams up with Kiss Daniel — another equally talented singer who’s been on a roll lately — to give us the confident and infectious “Me Ke”.

On Timeless, her Jazz-flecked remake of Fela Kuti’s “Ololufe” showed us just how much she’s inspired by the late afrobeat pioneer, and the energetic “Me Ke” finds her successfully channelling his musicality once again.

The track is a defiant anthem that finds Omawumi confidently telling off her haters. “Some people say ‘she no dey reign again’, same people go change their mouth again”, she sings on the first verse. Kiss Daniel joins in on the second verse and echoes similar sentiments.

“Me Ke” is a really impressive start to Omawumi’s new era. It feels like a perfect blend between the “exportable African music” she said she was going for on Timeless and a more mainstream sound. We can’t wait to hear what she drops next.
