Davido & Simi Flirt On The Catchy ‘Maga 2 Mugu’
Before their individually great runs in 2017, Davido and Simi worked on a song together that would be an easy hit if it was released today.
Off Davido’s five-track Son Of Mercy EP (his 2016 project which no one seems to have listened to), “Maga 2 Mugu” is a solid collaboration between two of our favourite afropop stars that not enough people got to hear.
Produced by Kiddominant — the genius responsible for “Fall” and “Like Dat” — “Maga 2 Mugu” finds Davido trying to win Simi’s affections the only way he knows how: with money (like on “Fall”) and compliments (like on “If”).
While Davido sings about her body turning “maga to mugu”, Simi sings about being slowly won over by his charms: “He say he wanna take me to overseas/He wan buy me dinner for Germany/Him mouth sweet oh, I no fit lie”.
With Davido having clearly moved on from the EP, we doubt this collaboration will ever be as popular as it deserves to be, but we hope that they get to work together again. It’s a pairing that shouldn’t work at all, but it totally does.
