Watch Maleek Berry’s Cover Of Bob Marley’s ‘Turn Your Lights Down Low’
Following Mr Eazi and Yemi Alade, Maleek Berry is the latest Nigerian artist to perform on BBC Radio’s 1Xtra’s Live Lounge. His performance falls squarely in the middle of the two before him: not quite as skillful as Yemi Alade, but a hell of a lot better than Mr Eazi.
On the show, Maleek performed “Pon My Mind” — the last single off his recently released EP — and a cover of Bob Marley’s iconic 1977 song, “Turn Your Lights Down Low”.

His performance of “Pon My Mind” is definitely the stronger of the two renditions. While we think the performance might have felt a little fresher if the song was stripped down a bit, it makes sense that he wouldn’t want to mess with the track’s catchy flow.
For his cover of Bob Marley’s “Turn Your Lights Down Low”, he smartly sticks to the original’s verse and chorus structure for the most part, before mashing it up with his hit songs, “Let Me Know” and “Been Calling” towards the end.
