9 Nigerian Music Collaborations We’d Love To Hear This Year 2018

2017 was a great year for Nigerian music. From solo jams like Davido’s “Fia” and Simi’s “Joromi” to brilliant collaborations like Tiwa Savage’s “Ma Lo” featuring Wizkid and Ycee’s “Juice” featuring Maleek Berry, we were never lacking in the bop department.

With this year, we are hopeful that the trend of great music continues — we are already hyped for Maleek Berry’s upcoming EP and Adekunle Gold’s sophomore album. What we’d really love, however, are some more fire collaborations, and we’ve already compiled our 2018 wishlist.

Asa and Brymo

An Asa and Brymo collaboration makes so much sense on paper, it’s more than a little surprising we still haven’t gotten one yet. Both celebrated for their distinct voices and thoughtful lyrics, we are positive they would bring out the absolute best in each other.

Simi and Wizkid

Simi and Wizkid have already sung each others’ praises on different occasions: Wizkid called “Joromi” one of the best songs of 2017; while Simi called Wizkid her favourite artist working today. So, what exactly are both of them waiting for?

Wizkid and Davido

Two of the biggest Nigerian artists, Davido and Wizkid, finally ended their pointless beef last month. While we are not sure if their newfound bromance will last very long, we are going to need both of them to hop in a studio and bless us with the collaboration to end all collaborations.

Kiss Daniel and Reekado Banks

While both relatively new, Kiss Daniel and Reekado Banks are already two of the best afropop artists in the game. Neither of them has dropped a bad song yet, so imagine what they can do if they joined forces? We are honestly getting goosebumps just thinking about it.

Seyi Shay and Tiwa Savage

Constantly pitted against each other due to the inherent sexism of the music industry, a Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay collaboration sadly seems very unlikely. But we really don’t care if it’s wishful thinking or not, we know that a song from both of these talented women would be absolute perfection.

Maleek Berry and Burna Boy

Malek Berry and Burna Boy are two of the most innovative Nigerian artists we have. While Maleek spent most of 2017 dropping solid self-produced singles, Burna Boy spent the year stealing the spotlight on every single song he was featured on. Both of them coming together on a track is a no-brainer.

Adekunle Gold and Falz

Seriously, how have Adekunle Gold and Falz never worked together? Both of them are constantly dropping great singles and elevating songs they are featured on. We are going to keep our fingers crossed and hope that Falz makes an appearance on Adekunle’s upcoming sophomore album.

 Poe and YCee

Poe and YCee are two of the most exciting new rappers we have today. Both of them not only know how to spit effortless bars, they know how to have fun while doing it too. We can totally see both of them pulling off an enjoyable rap collaboration in the same vein as Falz and YCee’s “Something Light”.

Runtown and Tekno

In 2016, the songs to beat were Runtown’s “Mad Ove You” and Tekno’s “Pana”. Since then, both artists seem to have mastered the art of hitmaking, and we can only imagine what kind of jam they would create if they ever worked together. Well, we don’t want to imagine any longer, we need it to happen.
