Proudly Nigerian Feature

Nigeria’s Women Bobsled Team Has Qualified For The Winter Olympics And We’re Proud AF!

Former track and field athlete Seun Adigun will lead the Nigerian women’s bobsled team at the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea.

Enough people say it but they can’t believe, Nigeria we have a bobsled team!

Guys, Nigeria has a women’s bobsled team and they have just qualified for the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea in 2018.

For the first time ever, Nigeria will be represented at the Winter Olympics.

Thanks to the efforts of Seun Adigun, Ngozi Onwumere and Akuoma Omeoga. These ladies just made history.

And that’s not all!

The Nigerian women’s bobsled team is the first African Bobsled team to ever qualify for the Winter Olympics. Our girls took records and turned them on their heads.

But the road to qualification wasn’t easy.

To qualify, the bobsled team had to take part in 5 races. And after their final race in the Winsport Olympic Park in Canada, they did it and qualified!

The road hadn’t been easy for the girls who had to crowdfund their qualification bid.

In the end, they raised $75,000 and got sponsorship from both Visa and Under Armour.

The story of our Women’s bobsled team reminds us of Cool Runnings.

It’s a movie about how Jamaica went to the Winter Olympics and competed. And we’re certainly not the only ones who made that connection.

We are so proud of Seun, Ngozi and Akuoma’s hard work.

Hopefully, the Federal Govt will start paying more attention to other sports that aren’t football.
