Experience Felabration 2017 Through The Eyes Of Photographer, Mr Wentz
From Wizkid’s killer performance to Seun Kuti’s total embodiment of his father’s artistry, the recently concluded Felabration 2017 was certainly one to remember – which should come as no surprise as it was the 20th anniversary of the musical icon’s death.
For those of you who’ve been living under a rock for the past two decades, Felabration, which was named the best festival in the world in 2016, is an annual music concert held in memory of the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
Felabration 2017 through Mr Wentz’s lens
If, for whatever reason, you who couldn’t make the festival this year, contemporary photographer Eseosa Benson Ikponmwosa (popularly know as Mr Wentz) has you covered. The talented photographer graciously documented the experience and the pictures are amazing.

From the performers – like Femi Kuti and Wizkid – to the crowd, all there to celebrate Fela’s legacy, the pictures (mostly in black and white) are incredibly immersive. We dare you to miss next year’s festival after getting lost in them.
Speaking about how and why he took the pictures, Mr Wentz said:
“I was trying to show the essence of the concert through the emotions of the people that were attending it.
I looked out for what I could relate to in the crowd: people really enjoying the concert, boys smoking in the corner and the likes.
Just things that, if I wasn’t a photographer and had just gone there with my friends, we would have been doing.”
About what he hopes these pictures evoke, he concluded:
“This was my first time documenting Felabration and I can’t begin to express the joy I felt while curating these images.
My only hope is that these photographs evoke the same emotions I felt when I captured them. And even if you don’t feel it today, there’s always tomorrow.”
