Banky W Plans To Become One Of The Great African Filmmakers Of Our Time
Singer and actor Banky W is set to add filmmaker to his already impressive resume. Following the monumental success of his first movie role in The Wedding Party, Banky W decided to attend the New York Film Academy (NYFA) to study filmmaking and then screenwriting.
Since completing the filmmaking course, Banky W has found a pretty nifty way of combining this newfound passion with his love for music: directing his latest crop of music videos – and they’ve all been pretty impressive.
Banky W recently sat with the NYFA’s Alumni Spotlight to discuss his love for filmmaking, the evolution of his career and his plan to become “one of the great African moviemaking storytellers of our time”.

Speaking about the plan for his career, Banky said:
“In the evolution of my career, I knew I was eventually going to get into moviemaking.
I knew that I wanted to progress from being a musician to being a director of videos and TV commercials.
[The plan is] to eventually, hopefully, become one of the great African moviemaking storytellers of our time.”
About the rise of new filmmakers in Nigeria, he continued:
“We have a whole generation of young filmmakers in Nigeria now, young storytellers who are passionate, talented and are interested in telling their own stories.”
