Watch Old School Meet New School On Terry Apala & Haruna Ishola’s ‘Pangolo’

Since he burst on the scene a few years ago, the obscenely talented Terry Apala has been single-handedly breathing new life into the apala genre. He has used his new school sensibilities to create trap apala hits like “Champagne Showers” and “Omidan”.

For his latest single, “Pangolo”, Terry Apala enlists the iconic Musiliu Haruna Ishola – the son of late apala legend Alhadji Haruna Ishola – and the result is an apala masterclass.

This collaboration has been a long time coming. Before we had Terry Apala, we had Musiliu, who in the early 2000s successfully re-invented and re-popularized the sound into a more modern hip-hop infused version, creating the well-received “Soyoyo”.

Successfully merging their old school and new school styles, “Pangolo” presents itself as not just a jolt to the genre but the perfect owambe jam – a song that will definitely find both the youngins and their folks dancing their hearts out in numerous wedding receptions to come.

The music video, which was directed by Black Child, is pretty perfect for the song. The clip is filled with great owambe-ready choreography and a surprisingly bearable amount of motion graphics (which is a miracle these days).
