Why Nigeria stars will love Turkey – Kenneth Omeruo

Kenneth Omeruo has said he believes some of Nigeria top stars who are now finding their way to Turkey will go on to enjoy the Super Lig because it is a decent competition which affords a player regular first-team football.

Omeruo has played in the Turkish Super Lig for the past two seasons on loan from Premier League champions and he should therefore in a good position to discuss the league there.

Eagles stars Elderson Echiejile and William Troost-Ekong are the most recent additions to the Nigerian contingent in Turkey

“Yes, I see our players moving to Turkey and I am sure it’s a decent league. I know this because I have played there for two seasons,” he maintained.

“People might criticise these moves, but believe me if they get to play week in and week out, then it’s good for them and for the national team as well because they are getting playing time in a decent league.

He added, “I have always loved playing in Turkey and I know our players moving over there are going to love it also, the only disadvantage is that it’s not being televised in Nigeria. It is a decent league.”

He restated his wish to stay put at Chelsea in the coming season, but he is equally realistic that he may have to go elsewhere to play regularly in the coming season with the 2018 World Cup in Russia on the horizon.

“I do want to stay permanently in Chelsea, but again there is the issue of if I want to be on the bench for a season with the World Cup around the corner?” he asked.

“My answer is no. I don’t want to miss an opportunity of playing for the country, so I must be on a league where am playing regularly.”
