Watch Kunle Afolayan’s Moving Short Film, ‘Hanatu’

Kunle Afolayan is easily one of the best Nigerian filmmakers working today, so it should come as no surprise that he is also one of the most in demand.

Still riding the wave of his three-movie deal (OmugwoRoti and Tribunal) with Multichoice Nigeria, the award-winning filmmaker was also enlisted by Sahara Group to create the moving (but extremely ad-ish) short film, Hanatu.

Hanatu follows the story of a youth corper, Preye (played by Gabriel Afolayan), who helps a little village girl, Hanatu, rediscover her confidence by securing a prosthetic leg for her – following a terrible accident that took the life of her father.

If we put aside the film’s obvious – but totally unnecessary – need to name drop Sahara Group at every turn, what we are left with is a story that’s pretty moving and competently acted (especially Gabriel Afolayan’s lead turn).
