Maleek Berry Is Lovesick On New Single ‘Been Calling’

Since making the switch from music producer to artist, Maleek Berry has been a one-man army. Taking in Brandy’s influence and adding it to his afro-fusion, his songs are dynamic and entertaining. So far, Maleek is the most consistent artiste in Nigeria’s music scene this year. Since the release of his debut EP, Last Daze of Summer, Maleek has always been in the spotlight and on the charts. Making appearances on several songs this year like Star. One’s “Okay” and YCee’s “Juice”

Now, he just released his second single of 2017, “Been Calling“. On the song, the artist-producer sings about unrequited affections. Maleek Berry’s “Been Calling” is a classic song about phones and relationships like Soulja Boy’s “Kiss Me Thru The Phone” or  Drake’s “Hotline Bling”.

Maleek calls and asks the recipient of his affections to acknowledge his phone calls and admits the way he feels. He even tells her that his friends are now making fun of him. But she doesn’t seem to be interested in him that way-or anyway at all. She’s just out there doing her thing and getting her coins.

If the song was in any other genre, it would have been somber but Maleek’s unique blend of r&b and afropop give it the perfect summer vibe.
