John Boyega Wants To Make Another Movie In Nigeria
In 2013, Biyi Bandele’s hollow adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s brilliant novel Half Of A Yellow Sun had a few bright spots – the brightest being John Boyega‘s moving performance as Ugwu, in what was only his third movie role.

Since then Boyega’s career has skyrocketed: landing a lead role in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens (the third highest grossing film of all time) and Katheryn Bigelow’s upcoming period crime drama, Detroit (a role that seems poised to land him his first Oscar nomination).
Well, even with everything Boyega has achieved in his career, he still has Nigeria on his mind – as he took to Twitter to share that doing another movie here would be “a dream come true”.
This is not the first time the 25-year-old has shown intense pride in his Nigerian heritage. In 2015 he clapped back at racists who were against his role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens with this instantly iconic quote from his New York Times interview:
“I’m a confident, Nigerian, black, chocolate man. To get into a serious dialogue with people who judge a person based on the melanin in their skin? They’re stupid, and I’m not going to lose sleep over people.”
He even took his Star Wars co-star, Harrison Ford, to a Nigerian restaurant in Peckham to introduce him to the glory of pounded yam and egusi soup.
Well, here’s to hoping Boyega’s dream to make another movie in Nigeria comes true. Our favourite new filmmaker, Dare Olaitan (Ojukokoro, Lagos Big Boy), already mentioned Boyega on Twitter saying he has an awesome movie he thinks he’d be amazing in – and we are suddenly rooting for it to happen à la the Lupita Nyong’o and Rihanna Twitter-inspired movie.
