Kechi Okwuchi Is The Real Life Wonder Woman We Need Right Now
While critics and audiences herald Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot’s iteration of Wonder Woman as “the hero we need right now”, the world got introduced to a real life Wonder Woman on the America’s Got Talent stage just last week: Kechi Okwuchi.
Armed, not with a lasso of truth or a god-killing sword, but with her iron will and an Ed Sheeran song, Kechi inspired all of us to be strong in a way no superhero movie ever could.
A real life Wonder Woman
As one of the only two survivors of the 2005 Sosoliso plane crash that took the lives of 107 passengers, Kechi has had over 100 surgeries including skin grafts as a result of the burns she suffered on over 65% of her body.
This traumatizing experience hasn’t stopped her from living her best life. In 2015, she graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Thomas Houston, Texas and was inducted into 6 academic honour societies as the most outstanding student for her major in Economics.
Now. she is sharing her beautiful voice with the world on the America’s Got Talent stage, because as she said during her audition:
“Lying down in the hospital bed with bandages from head to foot, music was my escape and that’s why it means so much to me.”
We’ll be here rooting for Kechi to take home the contest’s $1 million grand prize.
