Meet British-Nigerian director Daps: The visionary behind music videos from artists such as Migos, Kendrick Lamar and Stormzy

MEET DIRECTOR Daps, the name behind some of your most loved videos from Migos, Kendrick Lamar, Wizkid and Stormzy.

His music videography includes Kendrick’s King Kunta, Migos’ Bad & Boujee, WizKid’s Come Closer and Stormzy’s Big For Your Boots.

Born to Nigerian parents, Daps begun his career within the media industry as a video producer in New York and London.

Initially, he began playing basketball in London the Westminster Warriors.

He then continued his athletic career in the United States where he attended The Master’s School in Connecticut for one year.

Daps received a scholarship to play basketball at Campbell University in North Carolina where he competed for two years and received his bachelor’s degree and later received his master’s degree from Bellarmine University.

He began his video production career in 2010 and began directing music videos in 2013.

In 2016, he directed the video for “Bad and Boujee” which went on to become a US number 1 and garnered hundreds of millions of views.

“I have ideas and some work out way better than I thought they would and others don’t so you guys never see it! I always try to put in some kind of thinking piece,” Daps told Crazed magazine of his working practice.

He also directed the critically acclaimed video for T-Shirt, which numerous publications have stated as the best video of 2017.

The Nigerian-born director said it felt “great” to be representing the continent on a worldwide stage.

“I’m glad we’ve done a good job of getting our talents out there over the past few years,” he told Momanyiharun.com. “One of the main challenges for me is balancing clients goals with the publics expectations/desires.
