Meet the 22-year-old beauty queen born with HIV and using her platform to urge government to help end AIDS by 2030
MISS CONGO UK runner-up is using her platform to bring about a change in perceptions about HIV, a condition she was born with.
Horcelie Sinda Wa Mbongo, 22, born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, was 11 years old when she was told of her status.
The beauty queen said the turning point for her was volunteering in South Africa, working with other young people living with HIV on the International Citizen Service (ICS).
Her experiences motivated her to go public with her HIV status and she has now addressed Parliament.
She is part of a group of young people living with HIV urging MPs to help end AIDS by 2030.
Huge advances since the virus was discovered in the 1980s mean that with the right medication, it can be brought down to undetectable levels and cannot be transmitted.
Horcelie is now studying a degree in fine art in London, but plans to return to Congo to carry on campaigning on HIV and AIDS.
