Skiibii, Ketchup, Orezi: Singers Who are Yet to *Blow* Even After Alleged Controversial Stunts
Yesterday, some savage Nigerians decided to remember singer Skiibii after the Five Star Music singer tweeted support for Wizkid.
Wizkid had shared an old video of his former Lagos studio with a caption that celebrated his success and how far he has come. “Thankful to God for blessings. Ghetto youths don’t stop believing,” Wizkid had said of the video.
Skiibii chirped in support. “Now we worldwide,” the Five Star Music artiste said.
And this didn’t go unnoticed by a mean Nigerian who tweeted this scathing response. “@skiibii now wizkid is world wide not WE world wide! You never finish Surulere wide! You dey talk of worldwide.”
OUCH.
The exchange brought back memories of when the Sampu singer’s ‘death’ got everyone talking in 2015.
It all started with the breaking news of his death was announced by close associates who said he slumped and died. Many stars, including Chidinma Ekile, MI Abaga, Banky Wellington, Wizkid, Davido, Lynxxx, trooped to social media to mourn the singer whose real name is Abbey Elias. For hours, his label mates and bosses suspiciously stayed silent all through the outpouring of condolences, and even when Five Star Music manager Soso Soberekon shared a mournful candlelight on his page moments after the story of Skiibii’s ‘death’ broke, they remained mute.
However, Kcee surfaced hours later with a story of how he was on transit and was only getting to see the false news. He affirmed that Skiibii was alive, and this pissed of many Nigerians who agreed that it was all a stunt to promote the upcoming acts.
For weeks, Nigerians dragged Skiibii and the Five Star music artistes, accusing them of fraud. Skiibii stayed out of the spotlight, until yesterday when he tweeted support for Wizkid and an unforgivable fan put him in his place.
SMH.

2. Ketchup
In May 2016, singer Ketchup (real name Onyido Nkemjika) allegedly went into a coma following a jet ski accident in Dubai. According to ‘sources’, the ‘Pam Pam’ singer was with friends when the tragic incident happened. Hours later, the story changed after the first photo of him confined to a hospital bed surfaced on social media: he reportedly suffered severe brain injury and was not in a coma as earlier claimed.
But the story had many fans scratching their heads after the singer made a social media appearance only a few days later, thanking fans for their support; the brain injury had miraculously healed and Ketchup was up and prancing again.
Well, his music is yet to dominate the airwaves.
3. Orezi
In April 2016, the Ghen Ghen singer was accosted by an unknown man who accused him of having an affair with his wife. Orezi was reportedly leaving his show which took place in Surulere when the drama unfolded, and this quickly became a trending topic; everyone who never knew of the singer heard of him that day. Later, in their statement, his management said the singer thought he was being pranked, and Orezi would later tell Ebuka Obi-Uchendu that he would never ‘deliberately’ date a married woman.
But, a slew of fans have since wondered why the singer never never took legal action against his accuser, or even, why this accuser was never publicly identified. Some dismissed the confrontation as yet another stunt, especially since the singer PR’s Dubai stunt where he allegedly was arrested for drug trafficking, only for the news to be dismissed as fake news.
Perhaps, these artistes need some lessons from rapper AKA on how to get noticed successfully?
