Revealed: Why 18-Year-Old Mom Dumped 4-Month-Old Baby Under Oshodi Bridge

The Lagos State Task Force earlier in the day rescued a 4-month-old baby boy put in a bag and dumped under the bridge in Oshodi area of the state.

In a chat with newsmen in the state capital, Ikeja, the Chairman of the Task Force, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, said the enforcement team rescued the baby while on routine duty in the area.

Luckily for the baby, his 18-year-old mother was arrested by an operative of the security outfit as she tried to make her getaway from the scene, Egbeyemi further revealed.

In the course of investigation of the incident, the mother confessed that she decided to dump the 4-month-old baby as she could no longer carter to his needs, Punch writes

“We have briefed the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, about the incident and he has directed that the baby and his mother be immediately transferred to Social Welfare Department of the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development,” Egbeyemi said.

According to the 18-year-old single mom who dropped out of school in JSS II, she had to do away with the toddler after her family members made it clear they weren’t ready to accommodate her.

“My mother sent me out because I could not identify the man who impregnated me. I had sex with different men,” she said.

A tough one, but she’s not alone. She and her likes are pointers to the gradual breakdown of the social system.

The government needs to act, and fast, in order to save the system from total collapse.
