Governor AbdulRazaq pays N201m debt for Kwara United Club

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has cleared some N201 million debt owed by Kwara United Football Club, covering long-outstanding sign-on fees that have remained unpaid for more than a decade.

The Governor also announce cash rewards for Athletes who represented Kwara State at the just-concluded Gateway 2024 National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State, in recognition of their impressive performances.

Governor AbdulRazaq, addressing a reception held at the State Banquet Hall in Ilorin, announced that gold medal winners would receive N1 million each, silver medalists N500,000, and bronze medalists N300,000.

Kwara State finished 14th on the national medals table with a total haul of 29 medals; six gold, 11 silver, and 12 bronze, across various sporting events.

In a significant highlight of the event, the Governor revealed that his administration had cleared a 16-year-old debt of N201 million owed to past and present players and coaches of Kwara United FC.

Governor AbdulRazaq has overseen a substantial revamp of Kwara’s sports infrastructure. Key developments include the construction of an indoor sports hall, an Olympic-size swimming pool, a state-of-the-art table tennis arena, and a modern squash court complex.

The Governor expressed commitment to transform Kwara into a leading centre for sports talent development, thereby contributing to national growth and prosperity.
