Charity run raises N10m for digital library in public school

The sum Ten million naira has been raised to construct and equip a digital library at Government Secondary School (GSS) Gwagwa, Abuja, to improve access to quality education.

The funds were generated through a Charity Half Marathon, organised by Run Club Abuja (RCA).

Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Peju Lawanson explained that GSS Gwagwa was chosen as the beneficiary due to its lack of accessible computers for students, despite the critical role of technology in modern education.

“We support both fitness and charity. While helping people achieve their fitness goals, we’re also enabling the children of GSS Gwagwa to benefit from a digital library”, said Lawanson.

The funds were raised through participant registrations and sponsor support, which will go towards purchasing computers and other equipment for the library.

Founder of the RCA Charity Half Marathon, Henry Okelue noted that the event has grown significantly since its inception five years ago; from 150 participants to 700 in the 2025 edition. He expressed hopes of exceeding 10,000 participants in future editions.

RCA President Buchi Onyebule expressed satisfaction with the club’s achievement, stating that the target of N10 million had been met, with an additional N3.5 million raised to support 100 Abuja’s street cleaners for food items, safety apparels and care packages.

He highlighted the event’s growing appeal, with participants travelling from Lagos and even China to join the cause.

Managing Director of the headline sponsor, Norenberger Asset Management, Pabina Yenkere, said the company partnered with RCA as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment to giving back to society.

The event concluded with Run Club Abuja presenting a dummy cheque to the delighted students and teachers of GSS Gwagwa.
