AMAC wins inaugural FCT Women’s Football Tournament final 2025
The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has emerged victorious in the inaugural FCT FA Women’s Inter-Area Councils Football Tournament after edging Gwagwalada Area Council 1-0 in a tense final held on Sunday, April 27 at the FIFA Goal Project Pitch, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
A decisive first-half goal from Ruth Torsue sealed the title for AMAC, led by coach Atandex Taiwo, marking a historic achievement in the maiden edition of the grassroots championship.
Earlier in the day, Kwali claimed the bronze medal with a 4-3 penalty shootout win over Kuje, following a goalless draw in regulation time during the third-place match.
AMAC were awarded ₦250,000 for their championship win, while Gwagwalada and Kwali received ₦150,000 and ₦100,000 respectively for finishing second and third.
A special highlight of the final was the presentation of a Meritorious Award to Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President and West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B First Vice President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, for his significant contributions to football development in Nigeria and West Africa.

Fresh from the CAF African Schools Football Championship in Ghana, Gusau lauded the FCT FA and sponsor Pat Ajuma Ayegba for their commitment to nurturing grassroots talent.
“Competitions like this are vital for talent discovery. I’m proud to witness and support this milestone,” said Gusau.
Tournament sponsor and initiator, Pat Ajuma Ayegba, expressed deep satisfaction with the event’s success. She congratulated all the participating teams and thanked stakeholders for their support, particularly the NFF President and the Ministry of Women’s Affairs.
FCT FA Chairman, Alhaji Muktar Adam Mohammed, represented by First Vice Chairman Alhaji Salihu Kolo, lauded the tournament’s success and Ayegba’s dedication, calling it a strong foundation for future growth.
The Minister of Women’s Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, represented by her Special Assistant Alkali Suleiman, said the initiative would ensure positive impact on young girls, pledging continued ministry support.
Individual honours went to Gwagwalada’s Jimoh Kairat as Most Valuable Player, AMAC’s Duru Blessing as Best Goalkeeper, and Saratu Danladi as the Highest Goal Scorer.
The final drew an impressive crowd, including dignitaries like NNL CEO Emmanuel Attah, NTA Sports GM Kayode Adeniyi, Corps Command Daniel Asanya, and key FCT FA board members.
