Solution FC of Awka on Sunday gave their teeming supporters a thrilling Easter gift with a resounding 3-0 win against ABS FC of Ilorin in the week 14 encounter of the Nigeria National League.
The Solution Boys had managed to hold Osun Utd FC to a 1-1 draw in their last home game, fell 4-1 to Godswill Akpabio in Uyo on MD13, and crashed out of the President’s Cup after losing 0-3 to Kwara Utd in Benin City.
But a more purposeful Solution FC opened scoring in the 42nd minute through Valentine Ugwu after a series of scintillating displays to send spectators into a frenzy.
Then Chibueze Oputa extended the lead for the home side after capitalising on Valentine Ugwu’s pass from the centre area to score the second goal in the 50th minute of the game.
Chukwuemeka Oyieke completed the treble in the 87th minute with a solo run from around 30 metres, beating a defender in the process and chipping the ball over the ABS goalkeeper to bury the ball in the net.
Nwekwe said football enthusiasts consider the win an Easter gift while expressing hope that the positive results continue.
“We are very excited about this win. This is what we expect to see any day we come here to enjoy football, because we have not had a team of our own like this. We are happy with the changes, and we desire to see Solution FC qualify for Super 4 and progress to the Nigeria Professional Football League,” he said.
Coach of Solution FC, Godwin Ezema, said it was a tough game for his team, but it was exciting that they won.
Ezema said it had been a transition period for the team, with a streak of not-too-impressive records.
“With great respect to our visitors, as it was not an easy game, we appreciate our supportive fans; this result is good for us.
The coach said they will remain focused because every point counts at the moment, while hoping to improve on and sustain the progressive outcome.
