Centre for Girls’ Education, NAERLS partner to boost Agric-Entrepreneurship

The National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS) is partnering with the Centre for Girls’ Education (CGE) to promote agric-entrepreneurship and vocational training for young girls.

According to a statement by the Executive Director of CGE, Hajia Habiba Mohammed, the collaboration aims to equip girls with valuable agricultural and entrepreneurial skills.

Hajia Mohammed outlined CGE’s mission to empower girls through vocational and apprenticeship-based training. Since its inception in 2007 with just 64 girls, the Centre has impacted over 35,000 girls, offering training in poultry farming, animal husbandry, tailoring, catering, phone repairs, bag making, electrical works, and welding.

To ensure the success of this collaboration, NAERLS has assigned its Food Technology and Rural Home Economics Departments, Skill Acquisition and Development Center, and Adopted Village Units to identify skills that align with CGE’s programs.

Also, at a meeting to formalize the partnership at NAERLS in Zaria, NAERLS Executive Director, Prof. Y.A. Sani expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, highlighting NAERLS’ history of agricultural training and technology extension.

Prof. Sani also said NAERLS has trained over one million youths in various skills, positioning it as a key partner in expanding CGE’s reach.

The initiative is expected to empower more girls with practical and profitable skills, fostering economic independence and community development.
