Enyimba FC bounce back with 4-1 victory over Black Bulls
Nine-time Nigerian champions, Enyimba International FC, secured a commanding 4-1 victory over Black Bulls FC of Maputo in their Day 4 fixture of the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup, Group D.
The win served as a measure of revenge for the Aba-based team, following their 0-3 loss to the Mozambican side on Day 3.
The match at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo saw Enyimba take an early lead in the 6th minute through Joseph Atule, giving the hosts a strong start. However, Black Bulls responded quickly, leveling the score 1-1 with a set-piece goal from Ejeita Ifoni just six minutes later.
Enyimba’s preparations in Uyo, bolstered by the managerial change that saw veteran coach Stanley Eguma replace Yemi Olanrewaju, paid off in the second half. The introduction of Brown Ideye as a substitute further boosted Enyimba’s attack.
Ifeanyi Ihiemekwala restored the lead for Enyimba just before halftime, while Ideye netted their third goal in the 67th minute. Atule, who opened the scoring, sealed the victory with a fourth goal, although Enyimba could have won by an even wider margin had it not been for some missed chances and resolute defending from Black Bulls.
Despite the comprehensive win, Enyimba remain at the bottom of the Group D standings, tied with Black Bulls on 4 points and a goal difference of -2. In the other Group D match, El Zamalek SC of Cairo and Al Masry FC played to a goalless draw, keeping Zamalek at the top of the group with 8 points, while Al Masry sit second with 5 points.
