Bukayo Saka undergoes successful surgery, to miss over 2 months

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Bukayo Saka will miss over two months after undergoing hamstring surgery.

The 23-year-old winger was injured during Arsenal’s 5-1 win at Crystal Palace on December 21 and left the stadium on crutches.

Saka has been pivotal for the Gunners this season, contributing nine goals and 13 assists in 24 games.

Following Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Ipswich on Friday, which moved them to second in the Premier League, Arteta provided an update on Saka’s recovery.

“He had a procedure, and everything went well, but he’ll be out for more than two months,” said Arteta. “The timeline depends on how his healing progresses in the coming weeks.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal received positive news regarding Raheem Sterling, who may return sooner than expected from a knee injury.

Initially ruled out for “weeks,” the 30-year-old loanee’s condition has improved rapidly. “We’ll monitor him this week,” said Arteta. “Hopefully, he’ll be available soon because we need him.”

Arsenal, currently six points behind leaders Liverpool, face Brentford on New Year’s Day.
