Christmas: Sant’Egidio Nigeria celebrates with vulnerable communities

An international humanitarian organization, the Community of Sant’Egidio Nigeria, marked the festive season by extending Christmas celebrations to internally displaced persons (IDPs), elderly homes, and other centers supporting vulnerable individuals across the country.

At the New Kuchingoro IDP Camp in Abuja, Dr. Emmanuel Ekenta, one of the leaders of the organization in Nigeria, highlighted the significance of the initiative. “This event, tagged Christmas Lunch of Love, is a celebration of love and solidarity with the less privileged, regardless of their background, tribe, or religion,” Dr. Ekenta said.

Ms. Nneoma Onyekwelu, the Chairlady of the initiative, revealed that similar events were being held simultaneously in 20 locations nationwide and in other parts of the world. “We are here at the IDP camps, prisons, and elderly homes to share hope, community, and love with those who need it most,” she explained.

She emphasized that the Community of Sant’Egidio stands for prayer, service to the poor, and peace. “Our mission is to give hope and reassurance to the vulnerable in society, ensuring they feel valued and cared for, especially during this festive season,” Ms. Onyekwelu added.

The initiative brought a festive atmosphere to various locations, underscoring the importance of compassion and unity during Christmas.
