NGO Launches App To Combat Road Transportation Related Crimes
A Non Governmental Organisation in Nigeria, Sure Switch Tech has unveiled the SURE DRIVERS SOLUTION App to Combat Road Transportation-Related Crimes.
The App is designed to enhance free movement of persons and goods and enhance economic growth in Nigeria.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer, Sure Switch Tech, Mr. Chukwuma Ugbah explained that road transport being the backbone of commerce, tourism, and day-to-day activities, should represent safety and mobility.
Mr Ugbah said; “We stand at a turning point, where technology, particularly digital driver identification (Sure Drivers), offers powerful solutions to tackle this pressing issue. The time has come for us to adopt innovative strategies that leverage the power of IT Technology to not only protect road users but also to deter criminal activities before they occur.
“The Role of Technology in Combating Road Transportation Crimes Sure Drivers (An App), with its incredible ability to analyse data and predict patterns, has the potential to transform how we combat road transportation-related crimes.”
Lamenting the prevalence of criminal activities targeting travelers and commuters creates an atmosphere of fear and insecurity, he called for holistic approach to addresse the challenge, especially the adoption of Technology and its application.
“The future of road safety lies in embracing innovative solutions such as AI. The days of solely relying on manual interventions must be replaced with smarter, faster, and more effective tools. With AI, we can create an ecosystem where road transportation is not only efficient but also secure. However, as we push for this technological advancement, we must also ensure data privacy and the ethical use of AI. The ultimate goal is to provide safety while respecting individual rights. Let us all work together – governments, the private sector, and the public – to make our roads safe from crimes such as kidnapping, robbery, and other vices”, Mr Ugbah noted.
He further highlighted the benefit of the Sure Drivers App saying;
“Real-Time Crime Detection and Prevention The use of the Sure Driver App QR code recognition technology can also help in identifying real drivers and unknown criminals at road checkpoints or alongs, AI-Powered Emergency Response Systems, that can help you identify and track criminals under the guise of a Taxi Driver, Driver and Passenger Safety Alerts An AI app can be integrated with personal vehicles to ensure passenger safety. It also provide citizens with an easy way to report crimes or suspicious activities.”
On his part, the State Secretary National Union of Road Transport Workers FCT, Council. Mr. Idris Adamu said safety of lives is everyone’s business , therefore the council remained committed to ensuring the project succeeds and is of benefit the public.
Also speaking, the Brand Ambassador to the project Rita Daniels, a Nolly Wood Actress, while reiterating her commitment to the success of project, emphasised that safety should be prioritised as it is key towards economic and national development.
Passengers are advised to scan the QR code before entering any Taxi within Abuja. Also Drivers should encourage the passengers to scan to avoid lifting criminals that may end up robbing them.
Other highlights of the event was the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with partners.
