ZENITH/NBBF PREMIER LEAGUE: MFM, First Bank, Royal Aces, Titans, others, pick final 8 tickets
It was fourteen gruelling games for each of the 16 teams in the Atlantic and Savannah Conferences of this year’s Zenith/NBBF Women’s Premier Basketball League, played at the Indoor Hall of the Nnamdi Azikiwe National Stadium, Enugu and the Indoor Hall of MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja, respectively.
At the end of the exciting and very competitive games, favourites First Bank led the Atlantic conference by winning 13 games, losing 1; followed by MFM, with 11 wins and 3 losses; Dolphins also with 11 wins and 3 losses, placed third on the leaderboard due scores margin and Bayelsa Whales, picked the fourth final 8 ticket, having recorded 8 wins and 6 losses.
High-riding Nigeria Customs led the Savannah Conference with 13 wins and a loss, to lead the pack. Titans, followed with 11 victories, 3 losses; Royal Aces and Air Warriors, also punched the final 8 tickets with 10 wins, 4 losses, and 9 wins, 5 losses, respectively.
Remarkably, over the years, Zenith Bank has remained a strong supporter of basketball in Nigeria. And it has reflected in the growth of the game in the country as the female national team, D’Tigress, have won the Women’s Afrobasket four times, consecutively.
President of Nigeria Basketball Federation, Engr. Musa Kida, while commending the management of Zenith Bank for their support, also said the NBBF have made all necessary arrangements to host a successful final 8 of the competition, which is slated to hold October, in Lagos.
