Rangers Int’l crash out of CAF Champions League, as Enyimba qualify for Confed Cup Group Stage

Nigeria’s poor performance in the continental elite championship, CAF Champions League continued on Sunday in far away Angola when the country’s representative, Enugu Rangers International failed in it’s bid to qualify for the money spinning Group stage of the competition.

The Coach Fidelix Ilechukwu tutored side who went into the second leg with a slim 1-0 advantage over Sagrada Esperança secured at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State lost by 3-1 to their hosts in Luanda thereby existing the competition on a 3-2 aggregate

The more aggressive Sagrada Esperança  got their first goal barely six minutes into the game when Alexandre Fernando found the back of the net.

They doubled their lead in the 33rd minute through Mussa. But four minutes later, Enugu Rangers reduced the tally to 2-1 to carry an away goal advantage into half time.
Jamie Pimpao got the much needed goal for Angola in the 67th minute to seal the hopes of Rangers.

Sagrada Esperança will now go into next month’s draw for the draw of the group stage.

Meanwhile, Enyimba International of Aba of Enyimba had to go through the penalty shoot-out to get into the Group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday in Uyo after playing a barren draw with visiting Etoile Filante of Burkina Faso.

 The first leg also ended goalless leading to penalty shoot-out as tie breaker. Enyimba won 3-2 on penalties.
