Lagos, Chinese company sign MoU on 50 MW Solar Power

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked by the Lagos State Government and a Chinese company to install solar power systems in important educational institutions.

The MoU was signed by Governor Sanwo-Olu, who emphasized that Lagos State’s commitment to using sustainable energy solutions as a cornerstone of its economic development strategy is demonstrated by this endeavor.

The agreement was announced in a statement by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as part of the ongoing Africa-China Cooperation Summit (#FOCAC2024) in Beijing, where President Bola Tinubu is leading the Nigerian delegation on a state visit to China.

Sanwo-Olu governor, said generating about 50 megawatts (MW) of cleaner and more affordable electricity installation of solar power systems at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASU), Lagos State University of Education, and Lagos State College of Medicine (LASUCOM).

He continued by saying that the program should greatly lessen the institutions’ dependency on fossil fuels and the electrical grid, promoting environmental sustainability.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who signed the MoU, said that this initiative underscores Lagos State’s commitment to incorporating sustainable energy solutions as a cornerstone of its economic development strategy.
