FIFA U20 WWC: Danjuma Says Time For Nigeria To Lift The Trophy

The coach of Nigeria’s Falconets, Christopher Danjuma, is upbeat about the team’s chances of winning the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.

In an interview with FIFA media, Danjuma stated that the team is getting close to realising their dream. The Falconets are among the teams that have participated in every competition since its founding, having advanced to the final twice in 2011 and 2015 and producing a number of elite players such as Desire Oparanozie and Asisat Oshoala.

Danjuma stated that it’s time for Africa to win the competition.

“I think we’re closing in on our goal. As Africans, we have a spiritual perspective.

“We are confident that now is the right time to emulate the opportunities and events of 2010 and 2014.

“I am certain Africa will stand at the top of the world for the first time”, he said.

Nigeria is grouped with the Korean Republic, Venezuela, and Germany—three-time champions.

Overview of the Falconets’ Aspirations

Christopher Danjuma, the head coach of Nigeria’s U-20 women’s football team, the Falconets, has expressed a strong belief that the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia presents a significant opportunity for Nigeria to finally secure the coveted trophy. Historically, Nigeria has performed well in this tournament, having reached the finals in 2010 and 2014 but has yet to win the championship. This year, Danjuma is optimistic that his team can break this streak.

Group Dynamics and Competition

The Falconets are placed in Group D alongside formidable opponents: Germany, Venezuela, and South Korea. Each of these nations has shown a commitment to developing women’s football, which adds an exciting layer of competition. Danjuma believes that competing against such teams will not only challenge his players but also provide them with valuable experience on an international stage.
