Nigeria Is The First African Country To Qualify For The 2019 FIBA World Cup

The Nigeria national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress qualified for the 2019 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Spain. Now, the national men’s basketball team, D’Tigers has followed suit by qualifying for the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China!

The team had 12 games set up for them during the qualifiers. First, they beat Mali, Uganda and Rwanda (twice) to finish top of Group B in the first round of the qualifiers, which took place in Bamako and Lagos.

Then they proceeded to make an easy work of Ivory Coast and the Central African Republic in the second round of the qualifiers in Lagos. Although they had four more games remaining, the 18 points they earned were enough to make Nigeria the first African country to qualify for the World Cup.

If they keep this same energy, then we fully expect them to shine during the tournament. Right now, Senegal, Central African Republic, Ivory Coast, Rwanda and Mali are in the race to fill the remaining four slots meant for Africa.
