About a month ago, the talented Johnny Drille followed up his Owl City-influenced single, “Awa Love”— one of our favourite Nigerian songs of the year — with the Simi-assisted stunner, “Halleluya”. Now, he’s come through with a very fitting music video for the track.
Produced by Johnny Drille himself, “Halleluya” is easily one of the best Nigerian collaborations we’ve gotten this year. While Simi is known for stealing the show on every feature, this is the first time she’s performing with someone who’s actually her vocal match, and the results are stunning.
On the super relatable ballad, both stars sing about being in love, but being too afraid to make their feelings known. “I wan talk my mind and say how I feel inside/But I fear you won’t feel the same for me”, Johnny muses on the song’s stellar opening verse.
For the dreamy Mex-directed music video, we get a narrative that’s actually in line with the song, as we follow Johnny Drille and Simi, who are both holed up in their rooms, clearly being weighed down by their unspoken feelings for each other.
