Wale‘s been really busy for most of 2018, releasing a bunch of fantastic tracks, two surprisingly solid EPs and a couple memorable refixes. Now, he’s dropped the music video for the best thing he’s done all year: his fiery single, “Negotiations”.
Over Ayo N Keyz’s light, piano-fuelled production, Wale drops some of his strongest bars in a really long time. He raps about everything from how the industry treats him (“The rap industry think I’m crazy”) to his recent streak of great songs (“I’ve been peddling rhymes so much my calves hurt”).
On the confident track, which he dropped following his split from Atlantic Records, he also makes it clear that he’d rather keep doing what he is doing than sell out for mainstream fame (“No Folarin, never change never give up your soul Folarin/And do your thing cause you givin’ ’em hope Folarin”).
For the music video, we find Wale sitting down with label executives, as they try to get him to sign with them. The video, which also finds the rapper training hard, shows him rejecting every deal set in front of him. Thankfully, in reality, Wale recently signed with Warner Bros. Records.
