Woman Shares How Her Uterus, Hands And Legs Were Damaged Due To Complications From IUD Birth Control

Tanai Smith, a US-based woman has had to do an hysterectomy after she developed complications from the use of a birth control.

Hysterectomy is the removal of all or part of the uterus (womb).

After Tanai had her first child, her doctor suggested that she go for the IUD method of birth control, which is supposed to stay in her body for five years.

According to PlannedParenthood Intrauterine Device (IUD) is a tiny device that’s put into your uterus to prevent pregnancy. It’s long-term, reversible, and one of the most effective birth control methods out there. It’s a small piece of flexible plastic shaped like a T.

Three years later, she went for her medical checkup but nothing was found in her body. She was at work one day when she felt a sharp pain in her stomach. On getting to the hospital, an x-ray revealed the birth control had shifted far up her stomach, into her liver.

A surgery was done on her but afterwards, she started bleeding heavily which led to having her womb taken out as her ovaries had turned black. Her organs also started failing and she had to be placed on a breathing machine.

The complications caused her hands and feet to decay and will have to get them amputated. Tanai is sharing her story to warn other women of the possible complications that could result from the use of IUD.
