Watch The Trailer For ‘Hello, Rain’, The Short Film Based On Nnedi Okorafor’s Book
Ahead of the 2018 International Short Film Festival Oberhausen in Germany on Sunday, May 6, 2018, makers of the short film Hello, Rain have released a trailer for the film. Hello, Rain is based on Nnedi Okorafor’s Afrofuturistic short story, Hello, Moto

The story follows the lives of three friends – Rain, Philo and Coco. Rain has magical powers which enables her to create powerful wigs for her friends. Directed by award winning filmmaker, C.J. “Fiery” Obasi, Hello, Rain works with underlying themes on politics, corruption and black women’s hair:
“We were three women. Three friends. We had goals, hopes and dreams. We had careers. Two of us had boyfriends.
We owned houses. We all had love. Then I made these wigs. I gave them to my two friends. The three of us put them on. The wigs were supposed to make things better.
But something went wrong. Like the nation we were trying to improve, we became backward. Instead of giving, we took.”
Throughout the one-minute trailer, there’s a constant warning: ‘Don’t ever mix Juju with Technology’. A voice-over introduces the three friends, their goals and how happy they were before the magic of making wigs came into play.
