Bright Omon Broke Guinness World Record By Dancing For 7 Days

Last year, while we celebrated Debbie Odumewu’s record-breaking feat of dancing for over six days straight, we pointed out how Nigerians never seem to hold on to their Guinness world records for very long.

Well, it turns out we were right. This time, however, it stings a whole lot less because Debbie’s four-month-old record was broken by another Nigerian, Bright Omon — who’s danced for 7 days, and plans to go on for an extra day.

Not to be confused with the record for ‘longest dance party’ Kafayat Shafau-Ameh famously broke at the Nokia Silverbird Danceathon in 2006, the record Bright just broke is for ‘longest dance marathon by an individual’.

He beat out Debbie Odumewu’s impressive record of 150 hours. While we wish Bright had sought out a different record to break, because we can never have too many Nigerians on the list, Debbie was also there to support him as he made history.

Bright is the second Nigerian to break a Guinness world record this year. Just a few weeks ago, Olawunmi Bayode set a new world record after reading 17 different books aloud for five days straight — breaking the 113-hour record set by Nepal’s Deepak Sharma Bajagain in 2008.
