Nnedi Okorafor Is Releasing A New Five-Issue Comic, ‘Antar: The Black Knight’
A cursory Google of her name will reveal that Nigerian-American writer, Nnedi Okorafor, is not your mate when it comes to science fiction. She has a shelf full of awards for science fiction prose: Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy Award. She’s also writing the acclaimed Black Panther: Long Live the King series.
Yesterday, Nnedi announced and revealed the cover of her new project, Antar: The Black Knight, a five-issue comic which is due out on April 25. The comic tells the story of the African Arab slave turned warrior poet, Antar.
Antar is a legendary poet and warrior from Arabia, pre-dating the rise of Islam, whose writings have survived centuries. He was a despised camel driver born of an African slave mother and an Arab Noble father, and his story — and the comic — proves that heroes are made by embracing who we are and dreaming about what we can become.
Nnedi wrote the comic and the illustrations were done by artist, Eric Battle, who illustrated Aquaman, The Scourge and the Tarzan newspaper strips.
