Omawumi first came onto the scene in 2007, after she emerged as the runner-up of West African Idols’ first season, losing out to Timi Dakolo. It seems the industry was enough for two of them, as they have both gained tremendous success since and remained favourites even after all this time.
Last year, she released her third studio album, Timeless which featured stand out tracks like “Play Na Play”, “Ololufe” and “Somtin“, which just got a stunning star-studded music video!
“Somtin” is an amazing song which shows off Omawumi’s musical versatility. Its r&b sound is a shift from Omawumi’s usual afro-soul sound, and she pulls it off so well. The lyrics are typically Omawumi in the shift between English and pidgin. She sings “monkey no fine oh, but everybody like am” in the classiest way you’ll ever hear those words sung!
The stunning video looks like something out of a black American rom-com (think Two Can Play That Game or Deliver Us From Eva). Packed with cameos from a number of celebs like M.I, Kate Henshaw, Dare Art-Alade, Mai Atafo and more, they put on a little show for us, which is very fitting to the pace and rhythm of the song!
