Simidele Adeagbo Is Africa’s First Woman Skeleton Athlete To Qualify For The Winter Olympics

Dreams come true – including that of becoming the first woman skeleton athlete to qualify for the Winter Olympics even when your country doesn’t even have winter. That’s exactly the case for Simidele Adeagbo who got the world highly interested in skeleton after she took up her sled and decided to make history.

Last year, she was one race away from qualifying for the 2018 Winter Olympics. And just yesterday she got her ticket to be a part of the event in Pyeongchang, South Korea after completing her fifth qualifying race in Lake Placid, New York.

Her participation in the Winter Olympics means Nigeria will be represented in two games at the event –  that’s including bobsled in which our team of three amazing women will be making their own history. So, it’s time to clear our throats because we’re going to cheer till those gold medals touch down in Nigeria.

While Adeagbo was making global history in New York, she also achieved a personal best and had the fastest push start of the day – finishing the race in third place. She really crushed it and there’s definitely no stopping her now!
