John Boyega Will Be Making His ‘Pacific Rim’ Debut In This Comic Book
While we are all quite hyped to see John Boyega kick some butt as Jake Pentecost in the upcoming Pacific Rim sequel, that won’t actually be the character’s big debut. He’s going to first show up in a comic prequel to Pacific Rim: Uprising titled Pacific Rim: Aftermath.
Set nine years after the original Pacific Rim

Created to help bridge the events between the two movies, the six-issue comic book is set nine years after the original Pacific Rim film, which starred Idris Elba and Charlie Hunnam, and one year before Uprising.
Aftermath follows Jake as he searches for the truth behind the death of his father, Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba in the original movie), and introduces Griffin, a former Jaeger pilot who now works as an enforcer for a corrupt mob boss, as well as a mysterious criminal figure called the Mech Czar.
Speaking about the comic, John Boyega said on his Instagram page:
“We are expanding the universe of Pacific Rim in an exciting way! This is for all the comic book lovers!”
The first of the six issues was originally meant to be released on January 17, but it has now been moved to March 21 — just two days before Uprising‘s premiere. Uprising will follow Jake, who Boyega recently confirmed is of Nigerian descent, as he tries to prevent humanity’s extinction.
